African Business Forum

African countries are becoming more attractive to UAE investments with  DP World port project in Djibouti  and upgrade of Port of Dakar with newly built container terminal in Senegal, acquisition of Cape Town’s V & A Waterfront by Istithmar. It may be contended that with this over $1 billion acquisition of Cape Town's V&A Waterfront there is bound to be more investment from the Arab world to the continent. In the latest of its investments in Africa, Dubai World is investing over $230 million in eight tourism facilities in Rwanda. In less than five years Africa has witnessed the presence of Etisalat in Tanzania, Nigeria, Benin Republic, Central Africa, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Togo while plan is agog to register its presence in more African countries.

In many of these places investors from UAE are developing projects with equity participation of both local business men and government agencies. The UAE government has also indicated its interest to invest about $16 billion in the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and other infrastructural development. With this development, it becomes imperative that constant business networking is necessary to attract more investment to the continent. The encouragement of the UAE government as enthused by Her Highness  Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi UAE Minister for Foreign in her speech to the first edition of this conference has been a moving force and source of encouragement to ensure that this forum is conducted yearly.
This year’s edition is holding on Monday October 25, 2010, at Burj Al Arab Hotel, Dubai, UAE.
